PAUILLAC, the Vineyard of Excellence!

The name Pauillac is known all over the world and yet this vineyard is a "micro bout of land" located in the heart of the Médoc, at most a few hundred hectares of vine that stretch along the estuary of the Gironde. This reputation comes from the quality of its wines, the beauty of its castles and its vineyard cultivated here as a real French garden. If you only have a few hours to discover the Bordeaux vineyard, it is in Pauillac that you have to go!

You will find out how the estate produces its wine. It is not the castle (dwelling house) that one visits but the technical installations (Cuvier, chai, cellar, storage, museum or collection, tasting room…). Unless the visit is always guided by a person of the property. Some castles will also tell you about their architecture, their history, will lead you to the feet of the vines… Except when it is clearly announced "without an appointment", a visit to a castle is always done on reservation. It is simply a matter for the winegrower to be able to organize the reception of visitors. The easiest way is to call directly to the castle saying you want to visit it. Don't worry, they're used to it, you don't disturb them. Some areas may have a full schedule for several days, try to book your visit as soon as possible.

A winery, Château or cooperative cellar can produce several wines on the same vineyard. While respecting the maximum yield obligation per hectare imposed by the appellation of Origin controlled, this allows, in particular, to make selections to increase the quality of "great wines". For example, the famous 1st Grands Crus classés of Pauillac all produce second wines: "Carruades de Lafite" for Château Lafite Rothschild, "Petit Mouton" for Château Mouton Rothschild and "Forts de Latour" for Château Latour. The list below gives you all the wines produced, bred and bottled in Pauillac.
